My name is Jenny Laban. I grew up outside of Chicago in a suburb called Downers Grove, Illinois. That's where I went to school in the same district from kindergarten through senior year of high school. I went to a pretty tough school that expected high performance out of its students which I have learned to appreciate now that I am in college and do not feel quite as overwhelmed with expectations as I would have had I not had the preparation that I did. I decided to move out to San Diego after high school to follow in my sister's footsteps.
As far as technology goes, I do feel that I rely on it greatly in regards to using the internet to basically guide me through everything in my life. Therefore, things like computers are very important to me, but as long as they have word documents and the internet and a printer that is all I need. I’m not the most talented technological person and usually need some guidance in using most things. I can usually figure things out on my own by following steps, but prefer having someone else do it for me. Other than my laptop and my semi technical phone, I don’t live a very high tech life, but definitely couldn’t live without others doing so and relating important knowledge to me.I always planned on going to college, but had never had my heart set on what school I wanted to go to, but more so where I wanted it to be located and chose this school because it is near the area that I spent a lot of time visiting while growing up. After my freshman year as a kinesiology major I decided I wanted to change my major and transfer school and began attending San Diego Mesa while I decided what I wanted to do. When I decided that I wanted to be a teacher I decided to come back to school here at San Marcos because I believe this is a great place to learn to be a teacher. The part of the mission statement that most speaks to me is the importance of teaching lifelong learning, innovation, and research. I believe that that is the most important job of a teacher and credit my love of learning to past teachers that have taught me how to do these things. I believe that people should never stop wanting and attempting to learn new things in life and I like that this school is centered on this mission.
That's pretty intense that your high school was more intense than college.. that sounds like it wouldn't be that fun for a high school experience. :( I also don't have a high tech life.. my cell phone is pretty much about as far as technology really goes in my life.. I'm not a blogger, and I just recently got into Pinterest and am still trying to figure that out..
ReplyDeleteI think it's interesting that you felt your high school was tough on standards. Having grown up in New York City, I was always accustomed to high expectations at school. Even though I have always been a mostly "A" student, I actually have more F's in HS than in College. Maybe because I took... eleven years off? who knows!
