Classroom 2.0

NETS 2. I used school 2.0 to investigate NETS 2 so I could learn about designing and developing digital age experiences and assessments by reading an article about the importance of incorporating digital tools into the classroom rather than fighting with students to get rid of them.

I am investigating Net 2 to design and develop digital age learning experiences and assessments.  I chose this because I think it is important to grow with our students as they become increasingly involved in technology.  Rather than fight young student's desires to be constantly connected to the digital world and technology, it is better to incorporate these things into their learning and maybe even learn things from our students along the way.  The article "Using TPACK Framework; You Can Have Your Hot Tools and Teach With Them Too" explains that although it is not always easy, it is possible to develop ways in which to use things like ipods, blogs, cellphones, etc as tools in the classroom.  In order to be an effective teacher, it is essential to not only know the material you are teaching, but to be able to express and relate it to students in a way in which they can use.  While it might be easier as teachers to just relay the material in the form easiest for us, it is our duty to go the extra mile and learn how to incorporate things like technology into our lessons if it is what will keep students intrigued and able to learn.

The TPACK framework explains that a successful and effective teacher incorporates knowledge, technology, and content into their lessons.  In order to do so, a teacher must change their incorporation of technology to fit in with what is new and effective at the time.  While content and pedagogy may not change, a teacher can not simply use the same technological approach she learned when she was in school and expect it to have a positive effect on her students the way it did her years ago.  Successfully following the TPACK framework means continuing to keep up with learning new technology as a teacher.
